Wendigo in Marvel Comics

The wendigo is quite prevalent in popular entertainment. One example of this is the character "Wendigo" in Marvel comics. The wendigo appears in several Marvel comic series, including The Hulk (it's first appearance) and X-men. In the comics, the wendigo is a spirit which inhabits a person who is guilty of cannibalism. There are several incarnations of the wendigo as it inhabits different people.

In the comics, he appears as a large, muscled, bipedal, furry white creature, pointed teeth, red eyes and claws, most often with long white hair.





The wendigo was first encountered in Incredible Hulk issue #162. In this incarnation, the wendigo inhabits the character Paul Cartier after he eats his dead friend's body to keep from starving on a camping trip in Canada.


There are a total of 12 different incarnations of the wendigo throughout Marvel comics. It appears in The Incredible Hulk several times, as well as Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Sabertooth, and others.
